Cash for Clunkers

One day in August, while driving home from work, I caught up to a man driving a "clunker" truck. On the back he had so perfectly constructed a banner saying "I <3 MY CLUNKER".

I just need to write that down. That man loved himself and his life, no matter what others might have thought.

Fast Forward 3 Months

..Adventures in Paris, Philadelphia and Florida, work at my favorite GapKids, visits from missed loved ones, tons of birthdays; including yours truly, a sad 5 year anniversary, two incredible tribute concerts, many doctor appointments and antibiotics, countless adventures and photoshoots and one tonsillectomy later I find myself dropped off by the DeLorean in the middle of September. I am not yet free from the "unhealthy" feeling, although I felt a bit of relief for about a week and was able to sneak in a few outings with my girlfriends. I am now attacked by allergies and hoping it stays at that and nothing worse comes my way.

Numerous new exciting opportunities have come my way in the first few week of my senior year and I am ready to take them all on with tons of ambition and hard work.. drowsiness permitting.

I have no energy to write anymore. this blog post has been idle for about 2 hours now and this is all Ive got. Im tired and have lots of homework on my mind. Time to actually get it done! ...right after i upload some photos!

Paris

No time to recap on all the incredible things we've been able to do, which is okay because i don't think anyone will believe me when i tell them anyway.. but while i have a few minutes ill recap about yesterday.

we were able to go into the original workrooms of the YSL couture house, and got to go into the temp controlled closets that house all 5,000 pieces that the YSL foundation has been able to buy back from former couture owners. it was so unreal to see these jackets rolled out.. made completely from beads and to know that it took 500 hours to make them, and each one costs about 100grand. It was a dream to be there..

on the way to the YSL foundation we had all split up to grab lunch. we had a strict meeting time because we had an appointment and couldnt be late. One of the groups got held up at the restaurant.. lets just say that the french like to take their time when they eat.. so the girls in that group ended up being about 10 minutes late. once they showed up we started to make our way.. as we were turning around a corner we noticed there was an area blocked off with red and white tape, and there were a lot of policemen guarding the space. we were standing right next to one (of very few)tall buildings in Paris.. and slowly one by one, we noticed the silver sheet that lay over the man who had jumped from the building, not only did we notice that, but we also saw well..lets just say it was a sight that will probably never leave my head. it left everyone of us in shock, and created a very somber mood for the rest of the day. but this is just one example of MANY in life that shows things really happen for a reason, aka. if we had been on time.. what would we have seen then?

today we got to meet the milliner for Jean Paul Gaultier, it was sooooo awesome to talk to him, and see the pictures he had to share.

Well its about 9 here and i have to work on my collection.. its the main project weve had since weve been here.. thankfully i got paired up with my roommate. =)

Paris

It has been 5 days since Ive landed in Paris and there is TOO much to write. I guess ill just try to catch up on the days so far.

as we got in line for baggage check on sunday we were notified that our tickets were not correct, we were told that the 5:30 flight that we had been headed for would not be the plane taking us to paris. instead we would be taking the flight at 11, and it still being 3 in the afternoon meant that we would then have a thrilling 8 hours to enjoy in the airport. i know that sounds like a blast.. but it really wasnt. we grabbed some dinner, talked.. complained.. read.. or tried to read.. ate.. ate.. and ate some more. then FINALLY got on the plane. WOO!

we landed on monday at about 11:15AM is was pouring here.. and even through the gray wet fog.. i KNEW that wouldnt want to leave.. and after the first day of making my way through speaking very bad.. and very little french, i knew taht i wanted to learn it.. once i got here, it was so easy for me to catch on, and use the accent.. much easier than it was when i was home, trying to figure out how to say certain words. we took a bus ride about and hour to the hotel.. got our stuff unpacked, and then had a meeting with the other group of students that was here from my school (their trip was june 1-15) they showed the collections they had designed while being here (on posters.. not actualy garments) and then we all went to a group dinner. later my roommate jen and i went out for a drink with some of the girls.. we were exhausted but they were leaving the next morning and we could resist. that night i felt very very ill. didnt sleep at all, and woke up to face a busy first day of classes feeling a little bettter.

okay thats all ill write for now.. its 5:30 here and we have yet to step foot into a clothing store and im dying too.. this is our first have a good couple hours of free time. stores close at abou 7.. and it stays light til about 10.. which is sooooo weird, because it feels like 3 buts its really 6..

anyways.. tomorrow we will go to giverny and versailles.... =)

One year older & Twenty years wiser

This birthday was not only filled legal drinks at bars with new and old friends, but more importantly about turning the page to a new chapter in my life (CLICHE). It was about realizing the truth about people and their actions, and about facing them. As much as it hurt, it brought me to a place where I am free of wonders, and full of facts. None of these facts are pleasant, but without them I would be forever tortured by questions. This birthday was truly about respecting the importance and meaning of relationships with people that I may have ignored before, or ones that I may have judged to be something different that what they were.

Happy Birthday to Me, all 21 years of me, good, bad, and in between.

I cheers to a year full of personal growth in every creative way shape and form, and to finding someone to share and support my accomplishments, wonders, and just plain old rambling on with.

bittersweet symphony

Third times a charm... I suppose that what my tonsils seem to think. Its been a relaxing couple weeks at home, since my health has allowed me to take some time off from work.. much needed time off I suppose... only 3 days left of antibiotics, then hopefully (fingers crossed) its back to normal. Lots of photography was in order during this time of R&R. Here are a few of the shots.

The past two nights were as bittersweet as it gets. Being apart of a tribute concert to Van not only brought me back to the Southwick stage, but also once again affirmed the reality that Van is no longer here. It was a dream to be singing and dancing with old friends, but the fact that it was all in Vans memory never strayed far from my mind.

Well, 7 days left of being 20. It's going to feel good to finally be 21. 16 days left until I depart for Paris =) ... We shall see what these next few weeks will be filled with..

Its all a blur..

The last 3 weeks of my life have literally been a blur. Im really not sure of the order of events since my last post, but heres what I can recall: The wednesday before review I got out of work at 1030, and had a bunch of sewing still left to do. I went to Yamawaki (the fashion building) and was planning on leaving around 230. When i looked up at the clock and saw it was 430 I was shocked, time just seems to vanish when Im in there. Three other girls and myself stayed in there all night and got breakfast at 7am at a local coffee place. I then went to bed at 730, only to wake up 3 and a half hours later to start a very hectic day of review. Review went great, my models were on time, and my clothes fit them perfectly. Just because review was over didnt mean I was done, i still had a lot of hemming and last minute details to complete.

After all that work it seemed like it was about time for me to get sick again.... only this time sent me to the hospital. It was actually the best place I could have gone. I laid in the bed.. in a quiet room.. and slept a little bit.. and got a semi-decent meal.. of course i had a god awful needle in my arm the whole time but it was about 5 hours of rest that I needed and wouldn't have gotten otherwise.. i left with pain meds and antibiotics for tonsillitis.

After the hospital visit it was time for another blurry week. Filled with fittings, papers and presentations.. Friday came very quickly..here are a few pictures from the show...

This is the childrenswear display at the show. Mine is on the right, bottom row, second one in, the little pink dress. There are multicolored bow all across the bodice.
This is one of my hats from last semester. Its brown faux suede with round turquoise beading.

This is my vintage draping garment on the runway. 1930's influenced.

My ethnic garments inspired by my native american heritage. The dress is crepe back satin, with a painted silk panel down the front. The bottom is all peacock feathers.

It has a low back that is beaded, with a silver embellishment on the back. Hopefully ill be able to photograph it later.. so i can have some portfolio ready pictures to show.

My draping coat from last semester. With the skirt and tank underneath.

Menswear. Pin stripe pants and plaid button down.

Emily's senior show was on Saturday, which couldn't have been a more beautiful day. As a senior you make a 8 piece collection. Heres two pictures from Saturday.

Heres all the models, Danielle, Alexis, Sarah, Sheelah, Emily (the designer), Jess, Caitlin, Tristen, and Myself.
This is Jessica one of my best friends here. She was modeling for another senior. The red shirt and pants were a part of my outfit, along with a gray wool jacket.

I am 2 written finals, a digital portfolio, a physical portfolio, and a free-draped garment away from the end of my junior year... and that much closer to paris and florida. =)

Only hours left..

A lot has happened since Thursday. I worked all weekend, went to spring ball, saw some friends, watched the Boston Marathon, and sewed.. a lot. Tonight I took a break to write a 10 page ethics paper in  5 hours. My garment have obviously taken top priority.. I have been in the sewing labs until 2 am for the last 5 days, which is unheard of for me. Everything is coming together so it is all going to be worth it.Here is my draping dress.. with the sleeves attached.

To keep the dress true to being a costume piece from the 30's, I had to put in snap closures, which I did today. This is the only garment I have officially done and ready for review.

This is Alexis, one of my roommates and I at Spring Ball. I am on CAB a group that puts on many events throughout the year, Spring Ball was my committees huge event, it was a lot of work but it all came together and was a lot of fun!

This is my favorite picture from the marathon on Monday. Seeing all the runners go by is so inspirational as it is, and even being at the finish line brings me to tears, but this runner...this runner, was so moving, more than words can say. It was such a beautiful sight that brought by friend Jess and I to tears instantly.

Thats a quick update for now. Its 2:15 and I am exhausted. Praying I don't get sick. 9 days til my fashion show =) , 10 days til Emilys.. which I am modeling in.. AHHHH!

Today, April 21st was my dear friend Lexys birthday. Every year I have let a balloon go, and this year was no different. It was pouring all day, so I waited until 10:30 to let it go, hoping the rain would stop, but it didn't.

For Lexy.
