I decided to make a blog because I keep promising to update friends and family and to send pictures of my work, but 6 classes and 2 jobs have alloted me no time to keep up those promises! This is the second semester of my Junior year and this is a very hectic time. The month of April is always the most chaotic time for the fashion majors, because of the upcoming fashion show the first weekend of May. We have what is called 'garment review' about a week and a half before the show, this is where ALL garments are checked to make sure they are complete and acceptable to go down the runway! So as you can imagine all-nighters are pulled as time runs out before review, which is the 23rd. I seem to be right on schedule with my work, I am a little nervous, as I have some major assignments in other classes to accomplish as well,
but I feel I will meet my goal of completing all garments by Sunday the 19th! (Wish me luck!) Here are some pictures to show some of the things that I have been filling my days with..
I have to make a gown based off of a part of my Ethnicity. I chose to use my Native American heritage as my inspiration. The gown is a light brown crepe back satin, and as a part of the assignment there has to be some sort of couture piece to it.. i decided to paint silk.. this will be used as a panel on the dress.
This is the fabric I am using for my 30's inspired day wear dress, it is all cut on the bias (the diagonal) and needs to hang for a few days to get all the possible stretch out of it. This is for my Draping class, which is a method of making a pattern for a garment by using fabric as a pattern instead of paper. For this garment we had to be inspired by a character from the movie 'Dead End'... has anyone seen it?
Sewing the skirt part of the dress together! =)
This is the start of my menswear shirt.. it now as sleeves and a collar.. just needs a hem =)
